In 1866, soon after the Civil War, Rev. Sidney S. Murkland, who was born in Scotland came from Farmville, Virginia to begin mission work in the South. He was called Father Murkland and was very devoted to the Black people. He began to render service to the people in the Scotts community which resulted in the organization of Logan Church.
